Some Nigerian women write about how hard it is to attract a Nigerian man and keep him happy, and a lot of articles out there are complaining about the mistakes these men usually make, but where are the articles about what women can do, or prevent doing, to attract and keep a man?
An article by Michael Oluwagbemi II, “How to keep a Nigerian Man,” does just that. Based off of his article, here are some common mistakes that Nigerian women make to kill the attraction.
- Believing the hype
With all of the hype going around about women being unhappy in their marriages, it is easy to believe that these men are hard to figure out and please, however Oluwagbemi says that this is simply not true. He urges readers to take into account the position the females writers are in at the time, and why they may be complaining about their husbands. It may just be a misunderstanding creating a lot of rumors.
- Not knowing how to cook
Oluwagbemi says that the phrase, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” is absolutely true for the Nigerian man. If a woman doesn’t know how to cook and doesn’t intend the learn, it will be very difficult to get a Nigerian man to stick around.
- Ignoring culture
- Not accepting the family
When you marry a Nigerian man, you inherit an entire family. Even if you don’t like them, a good rule of thumb to keep your relationship intact is to be courteous around them.
- Be a “man wannabe”
The article describes this as a woman who cannot accept her femininity and would rather interfere in a man’s sports games or stand in the way of his “men’s” night out. Nigerian men don’t want women to see their femininity as a weakness.
- Acting jealous when he talks to other women
This was not in the article, however this is something that women of any culture are capable of doing. If you can’t trust your man to be talking to other girls, he will be offended, and it makes you seem desperate.
- Not giving him his space
Again, this is something that any woman is capable of doing to mess up a relationship. Men don’t want to be with their women constantly, and try to expect that will drive him away.
